Addysg Gymraeg i bawb – rali Caerdydd

Ralli-Caerdydd‘Allwn ni ddim aros 800 mlynedd am addysg cyfrwng Cymraeg i bawb’, dyna oedd neges drawiadol cannoedd o ymgyrchwyr heddiw (dydd Sadwrn, 13eg Chwefror) mewn rali yng Nghaerdydd.

Yn ôl adroddiadau blynyddol y Llywodraeth ar ei strategaeth addysg Gymraeg, dros y 4 mlynedd diwethaf, mae’r canran o blant 7 mlwydd oed sy’n mynd i ysgol cyfrwng Cymraeg wedi cynyddu llai na 0.1 pwynt canran bob blwyddyn. Yn ôl cyfrifau Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg, pe bai’r patrwm yn parhau, byddai dros 800 mlynedd nes i bob plentyn dderbyn ei addysg drwy’r Gymraeg.

Llofnododd sawl grŵp, gan gynnwys yr undeb athrawon UCAC, Dathlu’r Gymraeg a Merched y Wawr, ddatganiad yn galw ar yr holl bleidiau sy’n sefyll yn etholiadau’r Cynulliad i drawsnewid y ffordd mae’r Gymraeg yn cael ei dysgu. Cafodd y datganiad ei lofnodi yn y rali ‘Miliwn o Siaradwyr Cymraeg’ a gynhaliwyd yng Nghaerdydd heddiw (dydd Sadwrn, 13eg Chwefror) lle buodd y gantores a’r digrifwr Caryl Parry Jones, Ysgrifennydd Cyffredinol UCAC Elaine Edwards a’r gantores Kizzy Crawford o Aberfan yn annerch y dorf.

rali cymdeithars caerdyddYn siarad yn y rali, dywedodd Jamie Bevan, Cadeirydd Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg: “Pa blaid neu bleidiau bynnag sy’n ffurfio Llywodraeth nesaf Cymru, mae rhaid iddyn nhw weithredu gyda gweledigaeth a gwireddu ewyllys y Cymry i weld ein hiaith yn ffynnu. Ar drothwy etholiadau’r Cynulliad, un o’n galwadau pwysicaf yw sicrhau addysg cyfrwng Cymraeg i bawb. Mae’r gwleidyddion yn honni eu bod eisiau creu Cymru gwbl ddwyieithog – ond ni fydd y drefn addysg bresennol yn llwyddo i wneud hynny. Yn ôl ffigyrau’r Llywodraeth ei hun, mae twf addysg Gymraeg yn rhyfeddol o araf. Does bosibl y gall unrhyw un ddadlau nad yw’n cymryd yn rhy hir. Allwn ni ddim aros dros 800 mlynedd.”

Meddai’r gantores a digrifwr Caryl Parry Jones: “Be’ sy’n bod ar siarad dwy iaith? Dim na all gweledigaeth, ewyllys a pharch ei ateb. Mae’r Gymraeg ISIO byw”.

aelod cymdeithasYchwanegodd Elaine Edwards, Ysgrifennydd Cyffredinol yr undeb athrawon UCAC: ” Er mwyn i ni lwyddo i gyrraedd y nod mae angen  cynllunio’r gweithlu addysg yn llawer mwy effeithiol – denu siaradwyr Cymraeg rhugl a hefyd gwella sgiliau Cymraeg eraill. Mae angen cynllunio’r holl weithlu gan gynnwys gwasanaethau cefnogi addysg. Mae’n rhaid symud ymlaen ar frys i greu a gweithredu polisïau cadarn a chlir am y Gymraeg – gan gynnwys dileu Cymraeg ail iaith. Mae polisïau addysg y gorffennol wedi creu’r problemau – dewch i ni sicrhau bod polisïau addysg y dyfodol yn eu datrys.”

Cardiff rally – Welsh-medium education for all

Cymdeithas rally in Cardiff for Welsh-medium education‘We can’t wait 800 years for Welsh-medium education for all’, that was the striking message of hundreds of campaigners today in a rally in Cardiff.

Welsh Government figures show that, over the last four years, the share of 7 year olds going to Welsh-medium education has risen by less than 0.1 percent a year. Language campaign group Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg has calculated, if that pattern continued, it would take over 800 years until every child was taught through the medium of Welsh.

Several groups, including teachers union UCAC, umbrella language group Dathlu’r Gymraeg and Merched y Wawr, signed a statement calling on all parties standing in the Assembly elections to transform the way Welsh is taught. The statement was signed at the ‘One Million Welsh Speakers’ rally in Cardiff today (Saturday, 13th February) where the singer and comedian Caryl Parry Jones, UCAC General Secretary Elaine Edwards and the singer Kizzy Crawford from Aberfan were among the speakers.

cardiff welsh language rallySpeaking at the rally, Jamie Bevan, Chair of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg, who signed the statement on behalf of the campaign group, commented: “Which ever party or parties form the next Welsh Government, they have to act with vision, and ensure that the will of the people of Wales to see our language thriving is realised. On the eve of the Assembly elections, one of our most important demands is for Welsh-medium education for all. The politicians claim they want to create a fully bilingual Wales – but the present education system doesn’t succeed in doing that. According to the government’s own figures, the growth in Welsh-medium education is extremely slow. No-one could possibly argue it’s not taking too long. We cannot wait 800 years.”

Singer and comedian Caryl Parry Jones said: “What’s wrong with speaking two languages? Nothing that vision, will and respect cannot answer. The Welsh language wants to live.”

Elaine Edwards, General Secretary of teaching union UCAC added: ” In order to succeed in reaching the goal, the education workforce needs to be planned far more effectively – attracting fluent Welsh speakers and also improving the Welsh language skills of others. The whole workforce needs to be planned including education support services. We must move forward urgently to create and implement firm and clear policies for the Welsh language – including abolishing second language Welsh. Past education policies have created problems – let us ensure that future education policies fix them.”
